Colloidal Silver: Looking Blue
As you may or may not remember, a few months ago a man was interviewed by the news focusing on his unusual skin color. Paul Kerason’s skin appears as a bluish-silver due to a rare and documented case of argyria. Argyria is a condition caused by an excess of colloidal silver in the body.
About ten years ago, Kerason experienced a break out of dermatitis on his face that was so bad that he turned to alternative medicine to quell the condition. On and off for nearly 14 years, Kerason produced and drank his own homemade colloidal silver. This concoction is produced by sticking an electrical current through distilled water containing a nugget of pure silver. When the colloidal silver is administered the properties react with light and the silver radiates through the skin causing a bluish tint. Kerason’s condition, argyria, happens when the ingested silver becomes trapped in the skin and organs and cannot dissipate.
Prior to the invention and popularization of penicillin, silver was widely touted for its antibacterial uses. However, the FDA banned its use in 1999 due to unsafe levels in products and that the products were not accurately tested. It was also due to the fact that colloidal silver products have unknown effectiveness and safety measures despite any of their packaging. However, many alternative health professionals still swear by its use and claim it can help quell symptoms associated with gonorrhea, malaria, herpes, HIV, AIDS, shingles, and many others.
The Food & Drug Administration (FDA) banned its use in 1999 due to unsafe levels within products not accurately tested that had unknown effectiveness and safety measures despite their packaging. However, many natural health professionals still swear by the use and claim that it is helpful in calming symptoms of gonorrhea, malaria, herpes, HIV, shingles, and AIDS, among others, and it can still be found in diet suppressants.
Mr. Kerason has grown used to his developing skin color over the years and has been quoted as saying he does not have any plans to stop taking colloidal silver. He states he feels fine and is not worried about the silver levels in his blood and organs and has no plans on getting tested anytime soon.
